We need your help! Acadiana Humane Society has taken in many kittens and cats this kitten season, and have quite a long waiting list for more cats and kittens that need rescue. We need to raise money quickly to pay the ever growing vet bills for spaying/neutering, vaccinating, and tending to all of their medical needs.
We’ve also just taken in a dog with a really bad skin condition that will need to be seen by one of our vets to determine the cause and treat it. Toby will also need to be neutered and vaccinated before he can be available for adoption.
Please donate if you can help! Every little bit adds up to help us continue to save more animals! Thank you!
If you can’t donate, you can help in other ways! You can hold a fundraiser (bake sale, lemonade stand, yard sale, etc.) and donate the proceeds to Acadiana Humane Society. You can also open your home to foster cats, dogs, or small animals. You can also share our need with your friends and see if they can help. Thank you!
We are currently in need of several items. If you would like to donate them, you may do so at the Lafayette Petco on Louisiana Avenue, or at the Bridge Storage on Ambassador Caffery. Donation boxes are available in the lobby at the Ambassador Caffery Bridge Storage. Please mark AHS on the packages to be sure they know it is for our rescue. There is also a PayPal link on the side of this webpage if you would like to make a financial donation. Thank you! List includes, but is not limited to the following items:

ACADIANA HUMANE SOCIETY is One of 500 Finalists for Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good Program!
Acadiana Humane Society is proud to announce we’ve been selected as a finalist in Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program. Now we need your support! Please vote for Acadiana Humane Society at www.facebook.com/toyota June 27, 2011.
If we win, Acadiana Humane Society will use the Toyota to pick up strays, to save in danger dogs and cats from animal control facilities; as well as to transport rescue dogs, cats, and other animals to the vet, adoption events, and to new homes. We will also use the Toyota to pick up donations, to make deliveries to Pet Food Bank recipients, and to transport pets of low income families to the vet when needed under our Spay/Neuter Program. The Toyota will also be used to transport pets and volunteers to community events and educational programs.
Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program will award 100 vehicles over the course of 100 days to 100 deserving nonprofit organizations based on votes from the public. A total of 500 finalists were selected based on their application as reviewed by an independent panel of judges who are experts in the fields of philanthropy and social responsibility. They are vying for the opportunity to win a new Toyota vehicle. Winning organizations will use the vehicles to help expand their reach and mission within the community.
Please support Acadiana Humane Society on June 27, 2011. Voting will take place at www.facebook.com/toyota.
UPDATE! Thanks to all our supporters who voted for us we won a new Toyota! You can see our name on Toyota’s winner’s list. You can also see our contest page here on Toyota’s Facebook day 50 contest page.

We are in urgent need of money to pay vet bills and purchase pet food and supplies. We are also currently over run with new intakes of kittens, puppies, and rabbits. We have a waiting list of people with puppies, kittens, and cats who need us to take on rescues that they found, or pets that they can no longer care for, as well as pets displaced due to flooding. We need more foster homes! Please contact us if you can help by donating, fostering, or volunteering!
We have four small rescue dogs who will be starting heartworm treatment on June 2nd. We need to raise the funds to pay that bill, as we as help pay recent vet bills for spaying, neutering, testing, vaccinating, and much more. We recently took in a puppy that was very sick and required hospitalization for several days with all sorts of testing and we have no idea how much that bill will be. The puppy is fully recovered and doing fine. Also on June 2nd, Tubbie the Cocker Spaniel puppy will be neutered and undergo surgery to correct a cherry eye. The surrendering of baby Easter bunnies that are no longer wanted has begun, and we have three new rabbits that will need to be spayed before they are available for adoption. Kitten season is also in full swing, and we have committed to six litters of kittens, with more cats and kittens on our waiting list for when we have space. This ChipIn will not completely pay off our current vet bills, but will help to put a dent in them so that we can continue to save more animals. If anyone prefers to mail a check, please make it out to Acadiana Humane Society and drop it in the mail to us at P.O. Drawer C; Sunset, Louisiana 70584-0536. Our PayPal email address is info@acadianahumane.org. Thank you!
If you would like to meet some of our adoptable pets, some of our volunteers will be at the Lafayette Petco on Louisiana Avenue on the dates listed below with an assortment of adoptable cats, dogs, and small animals that are available for adoption! To see a current list of available pets, please check out our website by clicking here. If you see a pet in this list that you would like to meet at one of our adoption events, please email the foster listed on the pet’s petfinder page and let them know. If you want to ensure that they bring the pet you are interested in, please go ahead and fill out our prescreening application and attach it to the email (or fax it in) as this shows us you are seriously interested.
You can also meet some of our adoptable cats and small animals at theLafayette Petco anytime that the store is open, as some of our animals are regularly housed in the store to be seen by potential adopters. If you meet one our of adoptable pets in Petco during the week and would like to adopt, please speak to a Petco employee. Applications are available in the store, and the Petco managers and some employees know how to reach us for a phone interview. Small animal and cat adoptions can usually be done same day. However dog adoptions do require a home visit first.
We will also have fundraiser items available at our Petco adoption events to help raise money for vet bills and pet food. Handmade jewelry, rescue car magnets, pet treats, candy bars, and sometimes other items as they are available.
