Acadiana Humane Society is a no-kill 501c3 non-profit animal rescue in Louisiana. We hold adoption events on Saturdays at the Lafayette Petco on Louisiana Avenue from Noon to 4PM.
We have recently taken in quite a number of dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals. Our vet bills are ever growing. All three of the small dogs we rescued recently from local animal control facilities are heartworm positive. We need to raise funds to pay on our current vet bills for spaying, neutering, testing, vaccinating, etc. As well as raise money for the costly heartworm treatment for Sushi the Pug and Shelley the Sckipperke/Terrier mix from St. Martin Animal Control, Krissy the ChiWeenie from Vermilion Animal Control, and Raisin the abandoned Terrier mix. You can find out more about our animal rescue on our website and our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/acadianahumane Please help Acadiana Humane Society to keep saving the lives of these precious animals. Thank you!

Upcoming Petco adoption events:
Some of our volunteers will be at the Lafayette Petco on Louisiana Avenue on the dates listed above with an assortment of adoptable cats, dogs, and small animals that are available for adoption! To see a current list of available pets, please check out our website by clicking here. If you see a pet in this list that you would like to meet at one of our adoption events, please email the foster listed on the pet’s petfinder page and let them know. If you want to ensure that they bring the pet you are interested in, please go ahead and fill out our prescreening application and attach it to the email (or fax it in) as this shows us you are seriously interested.
You can also meet some of our adoptable cats and small animals at the Lafayette Petco anytime the store is open, as some of our animals are regularly housed in the store to be seen by potential adopters. If you meet one our of adoptable pets in Petco during the week and would like to adopt, please speak to a Petco employee. Applications are available in the store, and the Petco managers and some employees know how to reach us for a phone interview. Small animal and cat adoptions can usually be done same day. However dog adoptions do require a home visit first.
We will also have fundraiser items available at our Petco adoption events to help raise money for vet bills and pet food. We currently have some spring snack cannisters with assorted dog treats available for a $5.00 donation. We also have some spring snack bags with dog treats and rawhide for a $3.00 donation. As well as spring snack bags with cat treats and toys for a $2.00 donation. We sometimes will have home made treats for people such as blondies, cookies, and cupcakes. If we do, they are $2.00 a bag donation, or three bags for a $5.00 donation.
We also currently have a Spring Raffle Fundraiser going on! For a donation of $2.00 per chance, or three chances for a $5.00 donation! We will have raffle tickets available at each of our spring adoption events. The prize is a Petco Dog Training Course! All money raised from the raffle donations will be used to pay vet bills.

Acadiana Humane Society volunteers will be walking adoptable foster dogs in the Krewe des Chiens Dog Parade on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 2PM. The new route is the same route that the Children’s Parade follows. We will line up in front of the Public Library on Lafayette Street, travel in front of the courthouse, turn left on Vermilion to Park San Souci, which is where the parade ends. Registration and parade line up will be in front of the courthouse at the beginning of the parade route. GET MAP HERE.
We are still in need of several volunteers to help with carrying our banner, pulling a wagon of beads, and walking adoptable dogs! Please contact Sue Rabeaux ASAP through a Facebook Message if you can help! Or, if you know her cell phone number you can call or text her directly. With all the last minute parade preparations and vet appointments there are no available volunteers to man the office phone.
