Acadiana Humane Society just pulled a sweet cat from St. John the Baptist Animal Shelter who had been hit by a car. He has a broken pelvis, which we are told will require a plate to hold it together so that he can heal properly. He is being transported today to our veterinarian that has an orthopedic specialist. We are in urgent need of sponsors for his vet bills, and the vet bills of the many other rescued cats, dogs, rabbits, and ferrets in our care. Won’t you please make your contribution today? We have a Paypal donation button on the side of this page, as well as a YouCaring Fundraiser link below in this post. You can also send in a check or money order made out to Acadiana Humane Society to our mailing address at P.O. Drawer C; Sunset, Louisiana 70584-0536.
(December 24, 2016): An update on Jasper the Bengal cat that was hit by a car and ended up in animal control before we pulled him and sent him to our veterinarian. He does have a broken pelvis, which will require a plate to hold it together so that he can heal properly. He is currently in boarding at our veterinarian on cage rest, IV fluids, and TLC. One of the vet techs is loving on him in this picture that she sent us. He will hopefully have surgery next week to install a metal plate to hold his pelvis together so that he can walk again. Without the surgery he won’t ever be able to walk. We are in urgent need of sponsors for his vet bills, and the vet bills of the many other rescued cats, dogs, rabbits, and ferrets in our care. Won’t you please make your contribution today? We have a Paypal donation button on our website, as well as a YouCaring fundraiser link if you would like to donate today. Thank you! http://acadianahumane.org/catblogger/2016/12/22/help-4/
UPDATE December 27, 2016:
After seeing the orthopedic specialist at Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialist today, Dec. 27th, we are confident that his best chance at full recovery from his broken pelvis bone is to have a metal T plate surgically installed. He has multiple fractures on the weight bearing axis of his pelvis, and left to mend on it’s own could result in the following complications: a mild to severe limp which could eventually cause back or other issues, or blocked intestines and the inability to move his bowels, or even the inability to walk. However, with the surgery done ASAP he is expected to have full recovery with very minimal chance of complications. Because the injury appears to be a few weeks old, time is of the essence to do the surgery ASAP. So we left him at the vet and he will have his surgery tomorrow (Dec 28, 2016). We made a $1,200.00 deposit today thanks to some of the donations via Paypal and YouCaring that we have received so far. Please keep the donations coming in so we can pay the balance of his surgery which is estimated at $2,400.00. We have a Paypal button and a YouCaring fundraiser link on our website.

UPDATE: December 30, 2016: Jasper’s surgery went well, and he now has a metal T plate and seven screws holding his pelvis together. He will need six to eight weeks of strict cage rest to allow his bones to heal properly. He is currently staying in medical boarding at Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic to be sure he gets the best care possible during recovery. He is on pain medication and being monitored for unexpected complications. The surgeon is very optimistic and we do not expect any complications. Once he is recovered enough from his surgery, he will receive his remaining veterinary care before he is made available for adoption through Acadiana Humane Society. Here are a couple photos taken of him one day after his surgery.

If you can help, please do! We have six kittens that need to be fixed, vaccinated, tested, etc. before they can be put up for adoption. We have several cats in need of dental work. We have a cat that is having balance and weight loss issues. We have a cat that we suspect may be diabetic and we need her to be examined and have some blood work done. We have a pair of ferrets in need of vet care for possible intestinal issues, then vaccinations once better. We have a dog that needs medication. We have numerous cats and dogs that need flea prevention. We just can not do what we do without your help. We have also been asked to pull several rabbits and guinea pigs from an animal control facility, and we are the only rescue in the area that normally pulls these pets. Acadiana Humane Society is still in very urgent need of donations for our vet bills! We already owe money to four different veterinarian offices and have been numerous times since we first posted our pleas for help! The bills are due, or past due now, and we just don’t have the available funds to pay them all off! Our volunteers have been working hard doing fundraisers, and reaching out to others for help, even setting up at the Jockey Lot Flea Market to raise money. We set up a YouCaring Fundraiser but have so far only raised a very small percentage of our goal! While we appreciate every single donation, no matter how big or small, it takes more then a few people to help us reach our goal. If you can help, please donate through either our YouCaring Fundraiser, or through our Paypal donation button on our website, or you can send a check or money order made out to Acadiana Humane Society to our mailing address at P.O. Drawer C; Sunset, Louisiana 70584-0536. You can also call in donations directly to one of our veterinarians: Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic in Baton Rouge is where our largest vet bill is. You can call Azalea Lakes at 225-755-3838 with your credit or debit card and ask them to apply it to Acadiana Humane Society’s bill. If you are local, you can also watch our Facebook page to know where we are, as we can accept donations at our events as well. Just ask for Sue or Moriah at the event, as we have the Square Reader app on our cell phones and can accept donations via the app, or you can hand us a check or money order as well. We can not do what we do without your support! Thank you!
