Acadiana Humane Society volunteers and foster dogs had a great time on Saturday, February 26th at the Krewe des Chiens dog parade! Click the 2011 Krewe des Chiens Dog Parade link to view photos taken by some of our volunteers. You can also like Acadiana Humane Society on Facebook to see our current photos, newest rescues, and upcoming events.

The weekend of February 5th we don’t have any planned adoption events due to the Mardi Gras holidays. If you are interested in one of our adoptable pets and would like to adopt or meet them during the holidays, please fill out and send in our prescreening application and let us know you would like to make an appointment to meet at Petco or Petsmart over the holidays. We will resume our regular adoption event schedule on Saturday, March 12th.

We are currently in need of several items. If you would like to donate them, you may do so at the Lafayette Petco on Louisiana Avenue, or at the Bridge Storage on Ambassador Caffery. Donation bins are available in both locations. Please mark AHS on the packages to be sure they know it is for our rescue. There is also a PayPal link below if you would like to make a financial donation. Thank you! List includes, but is not limited to the following items:
  • Purina One Chicken and Rice Dry Cat Food
  • Purina One Kitten Dry Food
  • Purina cat, dog, kitten, or puppy food (any flavor)
  • Clumping cat litter

Acadiana Humane Society volunteers will be walking adoptable foster dogs in the Krewe des Chiens Dog Parade on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 2PM. The new route is the same route that the Children’s Parade follows.  We will line up in front of the Public Library on Lafayette Street, travel in front of the courthouse, turn left on Vermilion to Park San Souci, which is where the parade ends.  Registration and parade line up will be in front of the courthouse at the beginning of the parade route.  GET MAP HERE.

We are still in need of several volunteers to help with carrying our banner, pulling a wagon of beads, and walking adoptable dogs! Please contact Sue Rabeaux ASAP through a Facebook Message if you can help! Or, if you know her cell phone number you can call or text her directly. With all the last minute parade preparations and vet appointments there are no available volunteers to man the office phone.

The rescue animals of Acadiana Humane Society met with Santa Paws recently at Petco and asked him for a few things for the holidays. First on their list of course is a home of their own. Second on their list are the items we have listed below. If you would like to help make their wishes come true, we have two donation drop off locations. There is a holiday wrapped gift box at the Lafayette Petco between the cat cages in the front of the store. Petco is located at 3215 Louisiana Avenue. There is also a donation box in the lobby of Bridge Storage on Ambassador Caffery in Lafayette. Also, for those of you from out of state who would like to send a care package for the animals, you may send via the USPS to Acadiana Humane Society; P.O. Drawer C; Sunset, LA 70584-0536.

Issac told Santa Paws that he and his rescue cat friends at Acadiana Humane Society would like the following items for the holidays:

  • Fur Mice, Balls, Feather Teasers, Catnip, Catnip Toys, and other Cat Toys
  • Scratching Posts, Kitty Condos, and other Cat Climbing Toys

Please look for the holiday wrapped gift box, as seen in the photo above, at the Lafayette Petco between the cat cages in the front of the store. Petco is located at 3215 Louisiana Avenue. If you prefer to give these holiday gifts to the Acadiana Humane Society volunteers directly, we will be at Petco on Saturday, December 18th from 12Noon until 4PM for our adoption event and bake sale. You can meet some of our adoptable cats, dogs, and exotic pets at our adoption event.

Also needed are monetary donations to help pay our vet and pet food bills. You may make cash donations at our adoption events, or send PayPal donations to info@acadianahumane.org, or mail checks made out to Acadiana Humane Society to our mailing address at P.O. Drawer C; Sunset, Louisiana 70584-0536. All donations are tax deductible. Tax receipts are available if requested, and will be automatically mailed to online and snail mail donors who include their mailing address. Thank you!

Another way you can help our rescue pet’s wishes come true, is to help through our many fundraising opportunities. We currently have several fundraisers going on.

Thank you for remembering the rescue cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, chinchillas, guinea pigs, mice, and other exotic pets of Acadiana Humane Society this holiday season!
