We are currently in 4th place among the Louisiana animal rescues! A vote for us, is not only a vote to help save dogs, but also a vote to help save cats, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, birds, chinchillas, iguanas, and so much more! No other rescue in Louisiana, that we are aware of, rescues both dogs, cats, and small animals, reptiles, and birds!
Please go to The Animal Rescue Site then under “Search And Vote For A Shelter: type in ACADIANA HUMANE SOCIETY and input United States for country, LA for state, and Sunset for city, then click the “search” button. Then, scroll down to see our name, the city and state listed below and click on the “vote” button. The next page will be a “confirm your vote” page with a validation code. Please type the validation code into the text box and click the “confirm vote” button. It will then give you the option to share the link with your Facebook friends, Twitter followers, and to other social media sites. Please feel free to share and help us get more daily votes! Your votes & those of your friends will help us save more pets! Please note, once you have voted, the next time you log in, it may automatically show you the last rescue you voted for to save you a step when voting again. Thank you very much!

Saturday, September 22, 2012 was a fun day for dogs and humans alike in Lafayette, Louisiana! Best Friend’s Strut Your Mutt was held in downtown Lafayette at Parc Sans Souci. Many area rescues joined Best Friends in struttin their adoptable mutts, while others helped raise money for these rescues struttin their own mutts. Fun was had by all, especially Raj, our adoptable Heeler, who got to enjoy kisses from Ian Somerhalder, as well as walk with him during the one mile Strut event.
The Daily Advertiser posted an article about the event which you can view by clicking here.
Raj also had his picture tweeted by us, as well as by Ian Somerhalder during the event.

Whoa! Struttin’Mutt! He needs a home! Please adopt Raj! I’ve kissed every – ok almost every inch of him;) twitter.com/iansomerhalder…

Because Ian Somerhalder was showcasing Raj at Lafayette’s Strut Your Mutt on Saturday, we heard that several people were interested in adopting him. However, as of now, we have received no applications to adopt Raj. If you are interested in adopting Raj, or any of our other adoptable dogs, cats, or other animals, please be sure to download our application by clicking here, or by picking one up at the Lafayette Petco. You can then either fax or email the application, or leave it at Petco with one of the employees for them to fax to us. Raj is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention, microchipped, and ready for adoption! His adoption fee is $120.00 which helps to defray the cost of the medical care he has received while in our care. You can view Raj’s Petfinder page by clicking here. Please note that we do adopt to approved applicants outside of our home state of Louisiana. However, all out of state adopters are required to pay all transportation expenses, in addition to the regular adoption fee. Also, we do not adopt outside of the United States of America.
If you missed out on all the fun at Lafayette’s Strut Your Mutt, please know that it is not too late to help by donating! We have are still short a little over $10,000 to meet our fundraising goal! If we can reach our goal of $15,000.00 then we can not only pay off our current vet bills, but have enough money left to order dog and cat vaccinations and other much needed supplies to take proper care of the rescue animals in our care. We can’t do what we do without your help! Thank you to the 54 people that signed up to raise money for Acadiana Humane Society through Strut Your Mutt! If you haven’t raised more then your initial registration fee, please feel free to share your fundraising page link on your Facebook page and any other social media outlets you use and ask your friends to donate as little or as much as they can! Every dollar helps to add up to reach our goal! You can find the Acadiana Humane Society Team page here: and from that page you can find the links to the individual team members who are trying to meet their own fundraising goals. Please choose an Acadiana Humane Society Team Member and donate today! The fundraising will remain open for the rest of the month of September to help us reach our goal! Please help us help the homeless animals! Thank you!
A special word of thanks to volunteer Andrea Mire for exceeding her goal of personally raising $1,500.00 for Acadiana Humane Society! You can click here to view Andrea’s fundraising page and donate to AHS through her if you like.
If you would like to donate to AHS through our Director, Sue Rabeaux, .

Acadiana Humane Society was affected by Issac, but not nearly as bad as our neighbors in other parishes. We rode out the storm with only minor damage to the roof of our quarantine building, some broken pecan trees, a super saturated yard, and loss of electricity for 18 hours. We were lucky this time, as normally in a hurricane we loose power for a week or more and are normally flooded in for several days to a week, but this time we were on the calmer side of the storm. We are however in need of a generator for our hurricane safe animal shelter before the next big storm. The dogs and cats that had to stay in the shelter went without electricity and lights because we don’t have a generator. If anyone would like to donate to help us save up to get a generator, please be sure to note that your donation is for a generator when sending a check or Paypal donation. Paypal can be sent to info@acadianahumane.org or using the PayPal link on our website. Checks can be given to us in person at our Saturday adoption events at Petco (see schedule below), or mailed to us at Acadiana Humane Society; P.O. Drawer C; Sunset, Louisiana 70584-0536. If you would like to donate a generator you no longer need, you may email us at ahspets@gmail.com to make arrangements to get it to us. Or, if you own a business and would like to purchase and donate a new generator that could keep our shelter up and running in a storm, we would be happy to offer you free advertising on our website. Thank you very much!

Petco currently has select cat toys and cat scratching posts and cat furniture on sale Buy One Get One FREE now through August 25th when you shop with your Petco Pals membership card. If you only need one of the items, please consider donating the free item to your local animal rescue! For those of you who live in Lafayette, Louisiana, please feel free to make your BOGO FREE purchases at Petco located at 3215 Louisiana Ave. and donate your free cat toys, free cat furniture and scratching posts to Acadiana Humane Society! You can even leave it at the register when shopping and ask the employee to give it to one of the AHS volunteers!
Several customers have already taken advantage of this and donated some of their free items when shopping! The foster kittens and cats are having lots of fun tonight with the new scratching posts! We really appreciate the donation of pet toys and pet furniture and supplies! Why? Because our vet and food bills are our first priority so we don’t normally purchase toys and furniture for the rescue animals. If you prefer to donate them to us in person, you can either bring them home and email us at ahspets@gmail.com to set up a time to meet. Or, you can bring them back to Petco during one of our Adoption Events. Please see below for our current Petco schedule:
