Acadiana Humane Society has lots of cats, kittens, dogs, rabbits, and guinea pigs that need wonderful adoptive homes in time for the holidays! We have been working very hard to place them and to raise funds, but there is still so much more that can be done. Please, promote adoption! All cats, kittens, and dogs are spayed or neutered, had initial vaccinations, and are tested and on prevention before they are available for adoption. Many are also microchipped. If you would like to adopt a cat, kitten, dog, or rabbit, please download our prescreening application by clicking here. Then, save it on your computer, fill it out, and save it as a new file. Then attach the completed application to an email and send it to us at ahspets@gmail.com. We also currently have several spayed/neutered rabbits available for adoption, as well as some guinea pigs in need of homes. We are also in need of even temporary foster homes that would like to give some of our current older adoptable dogs, cats, and rabbits a family life for the holidays. To foster, you need to still download and fill out prescreening application, just put “foster” or “holiday foster” where it asks “What pet do you want to adopt” and let us know if you want to foster dogs, cats, and/or rabbits.
If you can’t adopt or foster, please do what you can to help us raise funds to care for these rescued animals. There are many ways to help financially.

Another easy way to help: If you normally go grocery shopping at Albertsons, then you can help Acadiana Humane Society by using one of our Albertson’s Community Partner key ring cards when you check out. We will have some available at our Petco South adoption event. Or, you can print your own using the image below. You can also save this photo on your smartphone and have them scan it at the register when you shop.
Another easy way, is to do some of your holiday shopping through Three Geeks Studio, which is run by three of our volunteers. A portion of the money raised from the sales of their handcrafted jewelry and gifts goes to help the animals of Acadiana Humane Society.

We will be listing some items over the next few weeks as we can find the time between working on finding homes for animals, and working the various events this time of year. Our animal rescue is 100% volunteer and all of our volunteers have families and jobs outside of the rescue, so it may take a little time to hear back from us. While we try to respond to everything within one business day, we get hundreds of emails and messages daily, and sometimes it is just not possible to reply to every one right away. Email is usually the fastest way to get a response, since replies can be made late at night if need be. We believe it is important to allow our volunteers some free time to spend with their families. If you are interested in adopting any of our animals, the first step is to download our prescreening application. Once you have filled out the WORD document on your computer, save it as a new file, and then attach it to an email and send it to us at ahspets@gmail.com. It normally takes one business day from when we receive your application to do the initial processing of your application. However, if you send in an application on one of the new rescue kittens that we recently took in, we may not process your application as quickly as we normally would. But, we will process them in the order we received them, before the kittens are completely ready for adoption.

Acadiana Humane Society will be at Petco, which is located at 3215 Louisiana Ave in Lafayette, on Saturday, Oct. 24th from 11am to 3pm. Meet some of our adoptable cats, kittens, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs! Petco is hosting a pet costume contest, so bring your pets in costume. Kids and adults are also welcome to dress up if you like! Free candy at our table for the kids while supplies last! We will have fundraiser items available at our table. We will also be accepting donations for Acadiana Humane Society at our adoption table in the form of pet treats, cat & dog food, small animal bedding, cat litter, pet toys, gift cards, as well as cash, checks made out to Acadiana Humane Society, and also credit/debit card donations via Square Reader.

Three Geeks Studio will be at Louisiana Comic Con in the Artist Alley at booth 116. A portion of the proceeds from this table will go to help the rescue animals of Acadiana Humane Society. They will have a variety of hand crafted, one of a kind, jewelry. Also available for the first time is original fan art prints of Sam & Dean from Supernatural. We are very proud of these young ladies and their creativity and skill. For more information on Louisiana Comic Con please check out their Facebook event page. They will be accepting payments in the form of cash, or credit/debit via Square Reader. If you are attending Comic Con, please be sure to check out Three Geeks Studio at Booth 116 and help support our no-kill, 501c3 non-profit animal rescue. Louisiana Comic Con is being held in the Cajondome Convention Center at 444 Cajundome Blvd. in Lafayette on Saturday, October 17th from 10AM to 6PM, and on Sunday, October 18th from 11AM to 5PM.

Acadiana Humane Society had eleven adoptions in the last two weeks, freeing up some space in our system. We just took in some rescues from two different animal control facilities. We pulled a special needs Momma cat who needed eye surgery, and her six beautiful 8 week old kittens from St. John Parish Animal Control on October 6th. Ruth and her babies all had their surgeries on October 7, 2015 and are recovering. We also pulled a small brown rabbit from St. John and he was also neutered today.
We also pulled six beautiful, fluffy kittens from St. Landry Animal Control on October 6th. These kittens were owner surrendered so we know their breed. There are two kittens from one litter, and four from another. The father to both litters was a purebred Maine Coon. The mother to two kittens was a Siamese, and the mother to the other four was a Savannah. They are only six weeks old, so it will be several weeks before they are available for adoption.
Our vet bills before today’s surgeries were around $2,000. We also have two dogs starting heartworm treatment this week, a dog dental, a cat dental, and another rabbit being neutered this week. Some of you may remember Milo, a sweet Siamese kitten we rescued from St. Landry Animal Control that had been hit by a car. Milo is still currently under our vet’s care and has had several surgeries for a massive hernia and a metal pin they used to hold his leg together, as he had been hit by a car before picked up by animal control. Bear, a rabbit that we had rescued from Calcasieu Parish Animal Control is also at our vet for tear duct and eye issues. We really need to raise some funds fast, as our fundraiser over this past weekend, while it kept us busy, it did not raise nearly enough to pay of our ever growing vet bills. We may have had several adoptions recently, but most of them were reduced fee adoptions. We really need donations to help us continue to save lives, as well as provide proper care for the animals currently in our care.
