Acadiana Humane Society has quite a variety of big events coming up over the next few weeks! We also have quite a few needs right now. If anyone would like to do a pet food & supply drive for our rescue, we have a list typed up below.
Acadiana Humane Society will be at the LSU Vet School with some of our rabbits and guinea pigs for their Open House on Saturday, January 31st from 9am to 3pm.
Acadiana Humane Society volunteers will be walking in the Krewe des Chiens Dog Parade on Saturday, February 7th when the parade rolls at 2pm. We are in urgent need of additional volunteers to help Acadiana Humane Society before and during the dog parade! We need six volunteers willing to volunteer under Acadiana Humane Society, but doing whatever the Krewe des Chiens needs you to do. This might be parade security, or concessions, or selling T-shirts, etc. Two of those volunteers would be designated to carry the Acadiana Humane Society banner during the parade so our volunteers and dogs can walk behind our banner.
We also need several volunteers to walk with Acadiana Humane Society during the dog parade. We need people 18 and older to walk our animal rescue’s adoptable dogs. We need people of any age to pull wagons full of beads, and to walk and throw beads and stuffed animals into the crowd as we walk the parade route. Responsible children are welcome to walk with us and throw beads, as long as they are accompanied at all times by a parent or legal guardian. We also need 2 or 3 people to decorate wagons and bring for us to use. We have some beads already, but if divided among 2 or 3 wagons then the wagons are easier to pull. If you are able to volunteer in one capacity or another for us, please contact us as soon as possible. You can text us at 337-371-5477 or email us at ahspets@gmail.com with the subject line “Dog parade volunteer” and be sure to include your name and cell number if emailing. We will get back to you as soon as possible with more information. Thank you!
Acadiana Humane Society volunteers will be at Petco South (605 Settler’s Trace Blvd.) Lafayette on Saturday, February 14th from 8:00am until 2:00pm for our big Valentine’s Day Event. We will have our Purina Pro Plan Rally to Rescue tent set up in front of the store with Valentine’s Day themed fundraiser items, and some of our regular fundraiser items as well. Three Geeks Studio will be there with their handcrafted, one of a kind jewelry. Get your last minute gift for your sweetheart and help support our animal rescue.
We will have adoptable dogs outside the store under our big Rally to Rescue tent. Inside Petco we will also have adoptable cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs. We will also be accepting donations of pet food and supplies at our adoption table & at our tent. Be sure and look for the table with the Acadiana Humane Society banner as we won’t be the only rescue group there.
Inside the store we will also have a table set up with adoptable cats and rabbits. We will be running special Valentine’s Day reduced adoption fees on all adoptable pets. If you want to take your cat or dog home the same day, please be sure to download and send in your application at least a couple business days before the event so you can be preapproved to adopt. Many thanks to all of our volunteers, fosters, adopters, veterinarians, adoption partners, community partners, supporters, and donors! Without your help, we could not have accomplished all that we did in 2014! With your support, in 2014 we have rescued and taken in 162 animals that were either picked up as strays, pulled from area animal control facilities, illegally abandoned at area business’ that called us to take them, owner surrenders, or returns. Because of your donations, all of these dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, and guinea pigs received the necessary vet care before finding homes. In 2014 we found homes for 138 animals! We already had quite a few rescued animals in foster homes before 2014 began, which your support also helped us to provide for. We currently still have 153 animals in our care as we welcome the New Year tomorrow. Many of these animals are currently due for updated vaccinations and vet care, which we hope to take care of in January.
Your generous donations this year have helped Acadiana Humane Society to end 2014 not owing any money to our veterinarians, and all of our bills are paid! This is the first year that we have not closed out the end of the year without still having an open tab at one or more of our vets. We sincerely thank you for that!
If you would like to help us start 2015 with a bang, please consider donating your end of the year gift now. All donations to our rescue are tax deductible as we are a 501c3 non-profit organization. We have a PayPal button on the side of our website if you would like to donate now.

Acadiana Humane Society volunteers will be at Blue Magic on Main in New Iberia on Saturday, December 13th selling Three Geeks Studio jewelry & Pinky Purses to help raise money for the rescue animals. Our goal is to raise enough money to pay off all of our 2014 vet bills before the end of December. Be sure and look for and shop at our booth in Bouligny Plaza under the pavilion! There will be lots of fun activities for the whole family, including a parade! There is fun scheduled from Noon until 9pm. We will arrive before Noon, and will stay as long as we can. We hope to sell out of jewelry, purses, and any other crafts we bring! Everything we will have will make wonderful Christmas gifts for someone on your shopping list! Please come out and have a great time with us!
