Acadiana Humane Society is in need of donations please! The air conditioner portion of our AC/Heater unit in our animal shelter has died! We are in urgent need of funds to fix or replace the air conditioner. We are also in need of funds to pay off our current vet bills. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Paypal donations can be sent to either info@acadianahumane.org or ahspets@gmail.com or you can use the Paypal button on the side of our website. We appreciate any and all donations!
Meanwhile, without air conditioning, our shelter is too hot to contain humans or animals. All animals have been moved out temporarily. Until we can provide air conditioning inside our shelter, we are on an intake freeze. This is because we have no where else to house animals, as all of our foster homes are beyond full after having to empty to shelter. Thanks so much for understanding!
Meanwhile, if anyone can foster cats, rabbits, or a dog please contact us via email as soon as possible. If you have not already fostered for us before, please download and fill out our prescreening application as you must be preapproved to adopt before you can foster, as the requirments are the same. The download link is on the side of our webpage. Emailing in your application is the fastest way to get it to us. Thank you!

This kitten is in urgent need of sponsors for her vet bills! She appears to have been hit by a car, and has a bloody nose and a possible broken leg. She is currently at our vet Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic for examination, x-rays, and treatment. She will also need to be combo tested, checked for parasites, and when healthy enough spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated before she is available for adoption. If anyone can help sponsor her vet bills there are several options to do so. We have a Paypal button on our website. You can also send a check or money order made out to Acadiana Humane Society to our mailing address at P.O. Drawer C; Sunset, Louisiana 70584-0536 Credit card donations can also be called directly to our vet at 225-755-3838 and ask them to apply your payment to Acadiana Humane Society’s account. Thank you!

UPDATE: Little Keico, who was found Monday night and taken into rescue, has been diagnosed with a broken pelvis on one side, and an almost out of socket bone on the other hip. She suffered some sort of severe trauma for sure. She will require strict cage rest for 6 weeks and faces potential surgery on her hips/pelvis once she is big enough. Donations can be called in directly to Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic in Baton Rouge at 225-755-3838 or by using the Paypal button on our website. She is only 8-10 weeks old. Please help us help her!

Due to an injury on April 7th, our Director has been and is currently still unavailable to take phone calls while under medical care, and our office is temporarily closed until further notice. She is unable to do any lifting, or bending, and is still in a lot of pain. We are still able to check email at least once a day, so please submit all applications and any questions via email. We are still holding adoptions to pre-approved applicants by appointment. If you do call us and leave a voice mail, your name, reason for call, and phone number will be texted to Louellen, one of our volunteers, and she is making call backs for us. This means that the number that will call you back, will not be the number you called. So please answer calls from a Lafayette number that you do not recognize if you are waiting on a call back from us. However, this can sometimes be a slow process, especially when people do not recognize the number Louellen is calling from, so if you are able to email us and ask your questions that way, you may get a faster response as we can respond to emails at any time of the day.
If you are looking to adopt, some of our adoptable pets can be viewed on our Petfinder page. Our prescreening application is a WORD document which can be downloaded from our website, or you may pick one up at either Petco in Lafayette. The fastest way to get your application processed is to be sure and answer every question, and send in your completed form by attaching the saved or photographed file to us via email at ahspets@gmail.commain foster home and shelter.
In addition to our Director having difficulty being able to get any work done, our Vice President is also dealing with an injury. He was rear ended in a car accident several weeks ago, and is under medical care for whiplash and back pain. This makes it difficult for us to keep up with the day to day care of the animals at our main foster home and shelter, so we have been forced to cut out taking in other animals to lesson the work load here. If you adopted any animal from us and can no longer care for them, then we will make room for returned cats, rabbits, and other small animals. If dogs are being returned, we will do our best to get them back into their original foster homes, but if the foster can’t help then we will do our best to rehome them as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.
Because we have not had any other volunteers that have been able to take over with our weekend adoption events and fundraisers, we are in need of help with adoption events and donations. If anyone that has adopted or fostered for Acadiana Humane Society before is available to host an adoption event for us at either of the Petco Lafayette locations, please email ahspets@gmail.com and let us know. If anyone else would like to donate to our rescue to help us continue to feed and care for the many rescue animals currently in our care, there is a PayPal button on the side of this webpage. Our mailing address is also located on the upper right hand side of this page if you would like to mail a check or money order, or even gift cards to local pet store, feed stores, or other stores that carry pet food and supplies. We can not continue to do what we do, without your help and support. Thank you!
This sweet pup is very thin and weak. She was rescued today by a Petco employee who will be fostering her for Acadiana Humane Society. She is giving her lots of TLC, keeping her warm, and trying to get fluids and food in her. So far she has no interest in food. She will be going to our vet tomorrow for examination and will probably get IV fluids. If anyone would like to sponsor Penny to help with her vet bills, please feel free to use the Paypal button on our website. Thank you!

Acadiana Humane Society is currently full and we do not have room for new cats or dogs. If you adopted any animal from us and can no longer care for them, then we will make room for returned cats, rabbits, and other small animals. If dogs are being returned, we will do our best to get them back into their original foster homes, but if the foster can’t help then we will do our best to rehome them as quickly as possible. The only animals that we are currently taking in are returned adopted pets, as well as small exotic animals such as rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, birds, etc.
We are currently out of canned cat food, and very low on cat litter. We have over 100 rescued cats in our care, so we go through a lot of dry cat food, canned cat food, and cat litter. We also have quite a few dogs in our care, as well as several rabbits, and some guinea pigs. Donations of pet food, especially any canned cat food, Purina Pro Plan dry cat food, any cat litter, dry and canned dog food, rabbit pellets, guinea pig food, and pet treats and supplies are always needed. We always have a couple of donation boxes in the lobby of Bridge Storage at 2510 Ambassador Caffery in Lafayette where you can drop off any pet food or pet supply donations whenever they are open. We currently also have the use of the donation bin inside of Petco South which is located at 605 Settler’s Trace Blvd. in Lafayette. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!
Acadiana Humane Society has two programs to help people in Acadiana who are in need of help to be able to keep their pets. We have a program to help pay for spaying or neutering of owned cats and dogs for those that are low income and could not otherwise have them altered. When we have funding available, we will pay the vet bill directly to Spay Nation of Lafayette for cats or dogs to be spayed or neutered and receive a rabies vaccine, on those that have filled out our form and been approved for this program. We will also sometimes help with the cost of TNR of feral or community cats when funds are available. We have a Pet Food Bank which will temporarily provide cat or dog food, and sometimes pet supplies, to those who may have recently lost a job or are currently on a fixed income. When area business’ and individuals or families donate pet food and supplies specifically for this program, then this helps us to help these families in need. On March 31st we are focusing our fundraising goals on replenishing funds for these programs. If you would like to make a donation to help us help others spay or neuter and vaccinate their pets, as well as feed their pets, please consider donating to Acadiana Humane Society on March 31st. We have a Paypal button on the side of this webpage. You can also send us a check or money order, with the words “Day of Giving” on the memo area, to our mailing address at P.O Drawer C; Sunset, LA 70584-0536. Please help us help our local community. Thank you!
