On 9/3/2024, Jade was brought to the vet because her belly was very swollen, she got thin on her back and hips (can feel her spine and bones), she wasn’t moving much, and just seemed not her happy and playful self. She was panting, and the thermometer registered 104 degrees when they checked her vitals. We were concerned about possible FIP, so Dr. Angie did an ultrasound and did not see any fluid to indicate wet FIP. She started sneezing while at the vet. They rechecked her temperature, and it was now normal. The rescue van’s AC does not work. Even though we had windows open and USB portable fans aimed into Jade’s crate, she got overheated. The outside temperature was 94, with a feels like 104 degrees. Dr. Angie kept Jade overnight so they could give her IV fluids, start her on Doxycycline, and monitor her food and water consumption, and also her litterbox. Sponsors are needed to help with this sweet kitten’s vet bills. If anyone wants to call in a donation during regular business hours, the number for Companion Animal Hospital of Lafayette is (337)284-8898. Just ask them to apply your credit/debit card payment to the account of Acadiana Humane Society for Jade the kitten. Donations can also be made online. Anything helps! Thank you!

Also, if anyone would like to help us either repair the AC in the rescue van or donate a vehicle with working air conditioner it would be very much appreciated! Our volunteers and animals get overheated easily with the extremely hot weather we have in Louisiana. The volunteers have all suffered from both heat exhaustion and heat stroke, just transporting animals to the veterinarian. If we’re hot, the animals are hot too!
