Acadiana Humane Society‘s office will be closed Thursday, December 24th through Monday, January 4th. We will reopen on Tuesday, January 5th. While we won’t be taking phone calls during this time, we will be checking the email once a day. Please feel free to go ahead and submit applications on any of our available pets, and we will process applications as soon as possible. When submitting an application via email, you will get an automatic email reply that lets you know that it went through. If you did not get the automatic email reply, then your application was not sent to the correct email address, please try again. If you send in an application via Fax machine, please be sure to send us an email to or a text to 337-371-5477 letting us know you faxed in an application and the name of the animal you are interested in. Sometimes the fax machine fails, so this helps us have a way to reach you if it did not come through. 

Also, if you already have an approved adoption pending, we will still meet with you over the holiday to finalize the adoption as planned.

If you would like to support Acadiana Humane Society with your tax deductible donation, there are several ways you can do this:

  1. Paypal donations to or will go to our general fund, or you can make a note to specify it go to sponsor a particular rescue pet, program (Pet Food Bank, Spay/Neuter Fund) or to help with vet bills, or purchase food and supplies for the animals in our care.
  2. Paypal donations to will go to our Spay/Neuter Fund to help qualified low income individuals and familes get their cat, dog, or rabbit spayed or neutered.
  3. Mail a check or money order made out to Acadiana Humane Society to our snail mail address at P.O. Drawer C; Sunset, LA 70584. As long as the envelope is postmarked by December 31, 2015 we can provide a 2015 donation receipt.
  4. Mail coupons for cat, dog, rabbit, and other small animal food, cat litter, small animal bedding, and other pet supplies to our snail mail address: Acadiana Humane Society; P.O. Drawer C; Sunset, LA 70584.
  5. Mail gift cards to Petco, Petsmart, Walmart, Target, Ranch Outlet, Tractor Supply, and other places that carry pet food and supplies to our snail mail address: Acadiana Humane Society; P.O. Drawer C; Sunset, LA 70584.
  6. Purchase pet food and supplies and donate them to us directly at our drop off location. We have a couple of donation boxes inside the lobby of Bridge Storage located at 2510 Ambassador Caffery in Lafayette. If you email us a photo of your donation, a basic list of items donated, and the value of those items, we can provide you with a donation receipt via email once we pick up and verify the donation. If you prefer to donate in person, email or text us to let us know what you have to donate and request an appointment to meet for pickup.

Then, anytime you place an Amazon order, just click through the AmazonSmiles page first and they will donate a portion of your purchase to our animal rescue! We get a check quarterly, so the shopping you planned to do anyway, can go a little further without spending any more, and help us do what we do for the rescue animals and those that love them.

*Also, please be aware that while our office may be closed during some days, we will reply to emails and process applications as we can. We are a foster based rescue, so there is no public facility to visit. Our animals can be viewed online on our Facebook page and our Petfinder page. If you are interested in meeting one or more of our pets, please download and fill out our prescreening application and submit it to us via email or fax. Email is actually faster as we are not always in the office to check the fax machine, and sometimes the fax fails. Once an application is processed, we can make an appointment to meet, or we will arrange to bring the selected pet to our next adoption event. Our animal rescue is 100% volunteer and all of our volunteers have families and jobs outside of the rescue, so it may take a little time to hear back from us. While we try to respond to everything within one business day, we get hundreds of emails and messages daily, and sometimes it is just not possible to reply to every one right away. Email is usually the fastest way to get a response, since replies can be made late at night if need be. We believe it is important to allow our volunteers some free time to spend with their families.
