Acadiana Humane Society is currently above capacity on cats, dogs, and rabbits. Because of this we are currently on an intake freeze for cats, kittens, puppies, dogs, and rabbits. This means we can not take in any new rescue cats, dogs, or rabbits. The only cats, dogs, or rabbits that we will be accepting are returned pets, that is, those that were adopted from us, provided the former foster home is still volunteering with our rescue. If they are no longer fostering, then we will help you find another home or rescue for the cat, dog, or rabbit that you wish to return. We are only accepting ferrets, guinea pigs, and other small exotic caged pets as new intakes at this time due to space and financial issues.
During the months of July & August, we would really like to encourage adoption. If you choose to adopt a cat, dog, or rabbit from Acadiana Humane Society during the months of July & August, we will happily offer to allow you to adopt a second cat, dog, or rabbit from the same foster home, for only $25 more! Just be sure to mention that you saw this offer on our website when submitting your application to adopt.
Acadiana Humane Society is currently low on funds for vet bills, as well as for pet food and supplies. If you would like to donate, please make checks and money orders out to Acadiana Humane Society and send to our mailing address at P.O. Drawer C; Sunset, LA 70584-0536. Gift cards and small packages can also be sent to this address. There is a Paypal button on the side of this webpage if you would like to donate online. We can not do what we do without the support of donors and volunteers. Thank you to those who donate regularly, as well as those who donate what you can, when you can. Thank you also for our volunteers who give of your valuable time to help care for the animals and work events. You are why we are able to continue saving lives and caring for the animals already in our system. Thank you!

*Also, please be aware that while our office may be closed during some days, we will reply to emails and process applications as we can. We are a foster based rescue, so there is no public facility to visit. Our animals can be viewed online on our Facebook page andour Petfinder page. If you are interested in meeting one or more of our pets, please download and fill out our prescreening application and submit it to us via email or fax. Email is actually faster as we are not always in the office to check the fax machine. Once an application is processed, we can make an appointment to meet, or we will arrange to bring the selected pet to our next adoption event. Our animal rescue is 100% volunteer and all of our volunteers have families and jobs outside of the rescue, so it may take a little time to hear back from us. While we try to respond to everything within one business day, we get hundreds of emails and messages daily, and sometimes it is just not possible to reply to every one right away. Email is usually the fastest way to get a response, since replies can be made late at night if need be. We believe it is important to allow our volunteers some free time to spend with their families. Thank you for understanding.
