Acadiana Humane Society‘s Director, Sue Rabeaux, has a birthday on July 25th. Her birthday wish is to be able to completely pay off our animal rescue’s current vet bills, pay the bills for the vet appointments scheduled for July; and to be able to purchase microchips, vaccinations, flea medications, and all the pet food and other supplies needed for the month of July and possibly August too. In order to do this, she is asking her friends, family members, and anyone else who feels so inclined, to honor Sue’s birthday by making a donation to Acadiana Humane Society or to purchase much needed items for the animals. We are a 501c3 non-profit, no-kill animal rescue.

raining cats and dogs

Acadiana Humane Society is currently above capacity on cats, dogs. We also have more rabbits then usual. Because of this we are currently on an intake freeze for cats, kittens, puppies, and dogs. This means we can not take in any new rescue cats or dogs. The only cats or dogs we will take in are returned cats or dogs that were adopted from us, provided the former foster home is still volunteering with our rescue. If they are no longer fostering, then we will help you find another home or rescue for the cat or dog you wish to return. We are only accepting ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other small exotic pets as new intakes at this time due to space issues.

During the month of July, we would really like to encourage adoption. If you choose to adopt a cat, dog, or rabbit from Acadiana Humane Society during the month of July, we will happily offer to allow you to adopt a second cat, dog, or rabbit from the same foster home, for only $25 more! Just be sure to mention that you saw this offer on our website when submitting your application to adopt.

Upcoming Adoption Events and Fundraisers:

*Note: Dates, times, and locations are subject to change. Please refresh this page or check our Facebook page, our Twitter page, or our Instagram page for the latest updates to our event schedules. Thank you!

*Also, please be aware that while our office may be closed during some days, we will reply to emails and process applications as we can. We are a foster based rescue, so there is no public facility to visit. Our animals can be viewed online on our Facebook page andour Petfinder page. If you are interested in meeting one or more of our pets, please download and fill out our prescreening application and submit it to us via email or fax. Email is actually faster as we are not always in the office to check the fax machine. Once an application is processed, we can make an appointment to meet, or we will arrange to bring the selected pet to our next adoption event. Our animal rescue is 100% volunteer and all of our volunteers have families and jobs outside of the rescue, so it may take a little time to hear back from us. While we try to respond to everything within one business day, we get hundreds of emails and messages daily, and sometimes it is just not possible to reply to every one right away. Email is usually the fastest way to get a response, since replies can be made late at night if need be. We believe it is important to allow our volunteers some free time to spend with their families. Thank you for understanding.
