This time of year, the need for animal rescue is great, but our space is limited due to already having so many animals in our care and adoptions also being very slow. Acadiana Humane Society is urgently in need of cat, dog, and small animal supplies! We currently have 84 cats, 17 dogs, 2 pregnant guinea pigs, 1 ferret, and 9 rabbits in our care and we could really use the following items to provide the proper care for them:

1. Purina Pro Plan cat & kitten food
2. Purina Pro Plan dog food
3. Rabbit pellets
4. Cat furniture & scratching posts (current ones are extremely used and worn)
5. Small dog/cat beds that can be used in cages
6. Guinea pig food
7. Cat toys
8. Cat litter
8. Stainless steel or ceramic bowls
9. Small blankets & towels
10. Small & Medium size plastic taxi/crates
11. Medium sized wire crates
12. Cat & dog treats (made in USA only)
13. Marshall’s ferret food
14. Kaytee or Carefresh paper bedding for small animals
15. Gift cards to Petco, Petsmart, Walmart, Target, etc. (places that carry pet supplies).

Acadiana Humane Society donations can be dropped off to us at any of our events (see website for list). We also have a donation box in the lobby of Bridge Storage on Ambassador Caffery in Lafayette. Now until May 31st, we have use of the donation bin at Petco South located at 605 Settler’s Trace Blvd. in Lafayette. Beginning June 1st the donation bin at Petco will be for another animal rescue. Or, you can call/text us at 337-371-5477 or email us at ahspets@gmail.com to make arrangements for us to meet you to pick them up. We can also accept Paypal donations and we have a Paypal button on the side of our website. You can also purchase a gift card to mail us, or mail a check made out to Acadiana Humane Society and send it to us at our mailing address: P.O. Drawer C; Sunset, LA 70584-0536.

Because we are so full, and adoptions have been slow, we are currently on an intake freeze for cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies until our numbers are greatly reduced. We have a waiting list to take in new rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, and other small exotic pets. We will still take in returned adopted pets, but it may take a few days to organize a place for them to stay. Emailing us a picture of your returned pet or surrendered exotic pet, along with the pet’s information is the best way to reach us. Please be patient if you need our help with a returned pet, or a surrendered exotic pet. If you did not adopt from us the cat or dog that you need help placing, then please go to petfinder.com and do a shelter search by zip code to find a shelter that may have room to help you. Emailing a photo and information on the pet is the best way to get a positive response, as they may have a potential adopter looking for what you need to place. If none of the rescues can help you, the best that we can offer is a courtesy post on our Facebook page. You will need to email us the pets photo, information, and the contact info you would like us to post, so that you can screen any potential adopters and place the pet yourself.

*Note: Dates, times, and locations are subject to change. Please refresh this page or check our Facebook page, our Twitter page, or our Instagram page for the latest updates to our event schedules. Thank you!

*Also, please be aware that while our office may be closed during some days, we will reply to emails and process applications as we can. We are a foster based rescue, so there is no public facility to visit. Our animals can be viewed online on our Facebook page andour Petfinder page. If you are interested in meeting one or more of our pets, please download and fill out our prescreening application and submit it to us via email or fax. Email is actually faster as we are not always in the office to check the fax machine. Once an application is processed, we can make an appointment to meet, or we will arrange to bring the selected pet to our next adoption event. Our animal rescue is 100% volunteer and all of our volunteers have families and jobs outside of the rescue, so it may take a little time to hear back from us. While we try to respond to everything within one business day, we get hundreds of emails and messages daily, and sometimes it is just not possible to reply to every one right away. Email is usually the fastest way to get a response, since replies can be made late at night if need be. We believe it is important to allow our volunteers some free time to spend with their families. Thank you for understanding.
