Did you know that bunny rabbits are the pet that is surrendered the most in the Spring and Summer months? Why is this you might ask? Because many well meaning adults think that giving a child a cute and adorable baby bunny at Easter time is a good idea. But, they don’t research rabbits to learn that they don’t stay small, and they are a ten year or more commitment just like a cat or dog. Rabbits require fresh food & water daily, a safe indoor environment to live in, and enjoy love and attention just like cats & dogs do. After the cuteness of the baby bunny wears off, and the reality of the responsibility involved in owning a rabbit sets in, many people decide to surrender their rabbit to animal control, a rescue, or even worse: set it free outside.  A domestic pet rabbit can not survive on it’s own in the wild, and it is illegal to abandon any animal. If you really want a pet rabbit this holiday season, please research first, and then consider adopting a rabbit from animal rescues such as Acadiana Humane Society or Magic Happens Rabbit Rescue. Rabbits adopted from either of our rescues are already spayed or neutered, and have an ear tattoo. Our rabbit adoption fee is $50.00.
