Acadiana Humane Society can use your help to continue to save the lives of more cats, dog, rabbits, & small animals! With the help of our donors, sponsors, supporters, & adopters we have saved the lives of hundreds of animals this year. Many of which spent the Christmas holidays in their furrever homes, rather then homeless on the streets or in animal control facilities. However, we need your help to continue to care for the animals still in foster homes awaiting an adoptive family of their own, as well as help to take in new rescue animals. We have been working hard trying to raise funds to pay down our 2012 & 2013 vet bills this year. With the generosity of our supporters this year we have paid off the 2012 vet bills and a very large portion of our 2013 vet bills. However, we still owe money to several vets: Spay Nation Lafayette, Pet Care Animal Hospital in Lafayette, Town & Country Vet Clinic in Lafayette, and Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic in Baton Rouge. You still have time to donate to Acadiana Humane Society by December 31st to get your 2013 tax deduction for donating to our 501c3 non-profit animal rescue. As long as the envelope you mail your check or money order in is postmarked by December 31, 2013, or your PayPal donation is submitted just before midnight on 12/31/13 you can get your donation in on time for this tax season. Our mailing address and our PayPal donation link are both available on the side bar of this webpage.

We are also in urgent need of donated cat, dog, rabbit, & small animal food, clumping cat litter, Carefresh small animal bedding, towels, blankets, pet beds, and pet supplies. We have a donation box in the lobby at Bridge Storage on Ambassador Caffery in Lafayette. Or, you can email or call/text us to arrange for pick up of your donations. All donations are tax deductible.

We hope everyone had a Meowy Christmas! While we will not have any more adoption events in 2o13, you can still meet some of our adoptable cats, kittens, & rabbits/guinea pigs at Petco North at 3215 Louisiana Ave., Lafayette, Louisiana, and also Petco South at 605 Settlers Trace Blvd., Lafayette in the adoption centers during regular store hours. You can also meet three of our dogs at Critters Spa & Day Care, at 917 Cayret Street in Scott, during their regular business hours. We are still accepting applications and will be processing them as usual. However, since some vets are closed early due to the holidays, this may delay the processing until we can reach your vet for the reference check. Email is the best way to reach our volunteers. If you would like to meet one of the pets online that is not already staying at Petco, please submit an application and request an appointment to meet them. We only make appointments when we already have an application submitted. If you prefer to wait for an adoption event, our next one will be January 11, 2014, the location will be announced later. Please watch our website, Facebook, and/or Twitter accounts for more information on upcoming events. Thank you!

The Acadiana Humane Society office will be closed from Wednesday, November 27th though Monday, November 2nd as the volunteers that answer the fax & phone will be on vacation. Applications can still be emailed to ahspets@gmail.com and will be forwarded to the foster parent with that animal. We do have an auto responder set up to automatically reply to each email, so if you get that, then you will know you sent it to the right email address & that someone will eventually see your email. Cat & dog applications can also be left at Petco with an employee, but they will hold the applications until a qualified volunteer can pick them up to process them. It may take a few days to process applications during this time, rather then the usual 1 to 2 business days. Thank you for your patience. May everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family & friends!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Garth
Acadiana Humane Society has taken in a lot of special needs animals recently and our vet bills have been skyrocketing. From Mathilda, an Old English Bulldog we pulled from animal control only to discover she has heartworms so bad that she has lung disease allowing her only 25% capacity in her lungs. To Misha, a Mini Rex rabbit with an eye condition that is requiring him to be hospitalized and monitored to try and save his eye. Missy, a Dutch rabbit that self mutilates and is also currently in the animal hospital under observation and treatment. Winry, a senior ferret that is currently in the animal hospital with daily antibiotic injections and subq fluids and an enlarged spleen. As well as Garth, a 9 week old one pound Chihuahua that we took in who already had pneumonia, and possibly distemper who is currently in quarantine from other dogs and living with a litter of kittens his age for socialization. This is just a small sampling of the special needs animals in our care at this time. Their vet bills alone are a lot more then we usually spend per animal for routine vet care. We really could use your help to pay on these vet bills. Support us through the events listed above, or by sending in a PayPal donation using the link on the right, or by mailing us a check or money order to Acadiana Humane Society, P.O. Drawer C; Sunset, LA 70584-0536. If you prefer to pay directly to one of our vets, you may do so by calling them with a credit or debit card. Just be sure to say your payment is to go towards Acadiana Humane Society’s vet bills. The vets we currently owe money to are: Pet Care Animal Hospital at 337-988-1100; Country Place Vet Clinic at 337-394-6296; Azalea Lakes Veterinary Hospital at 225-755-3838; and Spay Nation. Spay Nation does not have the ability to accept credit cards, so you would have to mail in a check or stop by and give them a check. Just be sure to note on the memo section that it is for Acadiana Humane Society’s bill. Thank you!
