Many of the animals that we rescue
have medical problems due to abuse or neglect inflicted by their previous
owners. Sometimes a rescued animal may not have obvious physical
problems, but exhibit psychological symptoms such as extreme shyness, aggressiveness,
separation anxiety, cringing or cowering when offered the gentle touch
of a human hand.
There are also animals that we take
in which, after testing and an intital medical assessment by a veterinarian,
are discovered to have hidden or age-related health problems such as heartworms,
FIV, FeLV, diabetes, arthritis, and other conditions. Some conditions
are treatable, while others are not.
We are committed to saving those
animals that are expected to make a full recovery and that are otherwise
adoptable. Often, those medical problems result in expenses that are not
adequately covered by the adoption fees. As yet, we have not set
an upper limit on the amount of money we are willing to spend on a given
animal’s care, because we believe that each individual is worth it and
deserves a chance to live a high-quality life, free of pain, hunger, neglect
and abuse. |
