Another way you can help is by dropping off cat food in our donation boxes in the lobby of Bridge Storage at 2510 Ambassador Caffery in Lafayette. Please be sure to see Linda or Miranda in the office if you would like to leave your name and address for a donation receipt.

If you would like to donate to us in person, please either email our Director, Sue Rabeaux at suerabeaux@gmail.com or stop by one of our Petco adoption events and we can accept them at our adoption table. Please be sure that if you bring them to our adoption events at Petco, that you hand it to either Sue or an Acadiana Humane Society volunteer at our adoption table, to be sure that we get it. A special shout out and thank you to Todd Haberkorn and Team Haberkorn for their support of our animal rescue! Todd teamed up with other voice actors to create a 2012 “The Fur Behind the Mic” Calendar to raise money for Acadiana Humane Society! The VAs and Team Haberkorn core members worked together to pull it off and the SOLD OUT on preorder! Todd has already sent us the proceeds from the sale via PayPal! Thank you Todd and Team Haberkorn! You can also bring donations to our adoption and fundraiser events and give to us in person. Suggested items to donate would be: Purina kitten chow, any Purina cat food (prefer chicken flavored), Purina dog food, rabbit pellets, guinea pig food, ferret food, chinchilla food, cat litter, small animal bedding. Donation receipts are available upon request.

We’re in dire need of donations to pay all of our existing vet bills! We have four small rescue dogs who will be starting heartworm treatment on June 2nd. We need to raise the funds to pay that bill, as we as help pay recent vet bills for spaying, neutering, testing, vaccinating, and much more. We recently took in a puppy that was very sick and required hospitalization for several days with all sorts of testing and we have no idea how much that bill will be. The puppy is fully recovered and doing fine. Also on June 2nd, Tubbie the Cocker Spaniel puppy will be neutered and undergo surgery to correct a cherry eye. The surrendering of baby Easter bunnies that are no longer wanted has begun, and we have three new rabbits that will need to be spayed before they are available for adoption. Kitten season is also in full swing, and we have committed to six litters of kittens, with more cats and kittens on our waiting list for when we have space. This ChipIn will not completely pay off our current vet bills, but will help to put a dent in them so that we can continue to save more animals. If you would like to meet some of our adoptable pets, some of our volunteers will be at the Lafayette Petco on Louisiana Avenue on the dates listed below with an assortment of adoptable cats, dogs, and small animals that are available for adoption! To see a current list of available pets, please check out our website by clicking here. If you see a pet in this list that you would like to meet at one of our adoption events, please email the foster listed on the pet’s petfinder page and let them know. If you want to ensure that they bring the pet you are interested in, please go ahead and fill out our prescreening application and attach it to the email (or fax it in) as this shows us you are seriously interested.

You can also meet some of our adoptable cats and small animals at theLafayette Petco anytime that the store is open, as some of our animals are regularly housed in the store to be seen by potential adopters. If you meet one our of adoptable pets in Petco during the week and would like to adopt, please speak to a Petco employee. Applications are available in the store, and the Petco managers and some employees know how to reach us for a phone interview. Small animal and cat adoptions can usually be done same day. However dog adoptions do require a home visit first.

We will also have fundraiser items available at our Petco adoption events to help raise money for vet bills and pet food. Handmade jewelry, rescue car magnets, pet treats, candy bars, and sometimes other items as they are available.

We are currently in need of several items. If you would like to donate them, you may do so at the Lafayette Petco on Louisiana Avenue, or at the Bridge Storage on Ambassador Caffery. Donation boxes are available in the lobby at the Ambassador Caffery Bridge Storage. Please mark AHS on the packages to be sure they know it is for our rescue. Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was a musician who not only supported No Kill Animal Shelters, but wrote songs about it? In fact, there is. His name is Marc Gunn and he sings fun Celtic songs…. with a twist. Marc is the man behind “Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers”, a comedic album of Irish songs rewritten about cats. His song “Black Is …the Color (of My Cat’s Fur)” even includes a plea to congress to make ALL shelters No-Kill.

For over ten years, Marc Gunn is a seasoned musician. He has performed traditional and not-so-traditional Celtic music at venues from Ireland to Italy and everywhere in between. Now he’s bringing his unique style of Celtic music to Lafayette for an evening of Celtic music and fun.

Marc Gunn, Celtic American and Folk Musician and Podcaster, will be in concert presented by Folks of Acadiana to benefit non-profit no-kill animal rescue Acadiana Humane Society. The concert is on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 7PM at the First Lutheran Church at 301 West Farrel Rd in Lafayette, LA. Tickets are $15.00 each, children under 12 are free.
