We also have other urgent needs to help us take care of the rescue animals already in our shelter and foster homes. We are almost out of dry cat food and clumping cat litter. We do not have the funds to purchase cat food and litter at this time. If anyone local can please donate either Purina One Chicken & Rice dry cat food, or Purina Naturals dry cat food, or any brand of clumping cat litter we would really appreciate it! Please be aware that we only have one drop off location now. All cat food and litter donations need to be dropped off  in the donation bins in the lobby at the Bridge Storage located at 2510 Ambassador Caffery in Lafayette. If you would like a donation receipt, please leave your name, mailing address, and list of items donated with Miss. Linda or Miss. Miranda and they will get the information to us when we pick up your donations. This is the ONLY official drop off location for donations. If you need to drop off at another location, please contact us at ahspets@gmail.com or 337-668-4484, to make arrangements to meet one of our volunteers to ensure that your donation goes where it is intended. Please note: Thanks to Purina’s Rally to Rescue we are still using the pallet of dry dog food that they donated! We do not need dog food at this time. We only need cat food and cat litter. Small animal food and supplies are also welcomed.

We will be at the Lafayette Petco on Saturdays from Noon to 4PM for our Acadiana Humane Society Adoption Events! Meet some of our adoptable dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, and other small animals. Acadiana Humane Society is participating this year by collecting funds all during the month of February for the Acadiana Humane Society Spay/Neuter Fund. This fund is used to help low income people and families who qualify to get their cat, dog, or rabbit spayed or neutered at 50% off or free, depending on their income/need. PayPal donations for the Spay/Neuter Fund can be sent to spay@acadianahumane.org. Checks or money orders can be sent to Acadiana Humane Society; ATTN: Spay/Neuter Fund; P.O. If you are in the Acadiana area and can not afford to spay or neuter your cat or dog, please contact us at spay@acadianahumane.org to request an application for our Spay/Neuter program. If you qualify and we have funds available then we will be able to help. If no funds are available, then we will let you know about other programs in the area that you may be able to get assistance from. This program is available all year as long as there is funding available. Thank you!

We’ve also just taken in a dog with a really bad skin condition that will need to be seen by one of our vets to determine the cause and treat it. Toby will also need to be neutered and vaccinated before he can be available for adoption.

We have four small rescue dogs who will be starting heartworm treatment on June 2nd. We need to raise the funds to pay that bill, as we as help pay recent vet bills for spaying, neutering, testing, vaccinating, and much more. We recently took in a puppy that was very sick and required hospitalization for several days with all sorts of testing and we have no idea how much that bill will be. The puppy is fully recovered and doing fine. Also on June 2nd, Tubbie the Cocker Spaniel puppy will be neutered and undergo surgery to correct a cherry eye. The surrendering of baby Easter bunnies that are no longer wanted has begun, and we have three new rabbits that will need to be spayed before they are available for adoption. Kitten season is also in full swing, and we have committed to six litters of kittens, with more cats and kittens on our waiting list for when we have space. This ChipIn will not completely pay off our current vet bills, but will help to put a dent in them so that we can continue to save more animals. If you would like to meet some of our adoptable pets, some of our volunteers will be at the Lafayette Petco on Louisiana Avenue on the dates listed below with an assortment of adoptable cats, dogs, and small animals that are available for adoption! To see a current list of available pets, please check out our website by clicking here. If you see a pet in this list that you would like to meet at one of our adoption events, please email the foster listed on the pet’s petfinder page and let them know. If you want to ensure that they bring the pet you are interested in, please go ahead and fill out our prescreening application and attach it to the email (or fax it in) as this shows us you are seriously interested.

You can also meet some of our adoptable cats and small animals at theLafayette Petco anytime that the store is open, as some of our animals are regularly housed in the store to be seen by potential adopters. If you meet one our of adoptable pets in Petco during the week and would like to adopt, please speak to a Petco employee. Applications are available in the store, and the Petco managers and some employees know how to reach us for a phone interview. Small animal and cat adoptions can usually be done same day. However dog adoptions do require a home visit first.

We will also have fundraiser items available at our Petco adoption events to help raise money for vet bills and pet food. Handmade jewelry, rescue car magnets, pet treats, candy bars, and sometimes other items as they are available.

We have recently taken in quite a number of dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals. Our vet bills are ever growing. All three of the small dogs we rescued recently from local animal control facilities are heartworm positive. We need to raise funds to pay on our current vet bills for spaying, neutering, testing, vaccinating, etc. As well as raise money for the costly heartworm treatment for Sushi the Pug and Shelley the Sckipperke/Terrier mix from St. Martin Animal Control, Krissy the ChiWeenie from Vermilion Animal Control, and Raisin the abandoned Terrier mix. February is Adopt-A-Rescued Rabbit Month! Acadiana Humane Society has several retired Easter Rabbits available for adoption. You can meet one or two of them daily at the Lafayette Petco. We will also have more available to meet every Saturday in February from Noon to 4PM at our Petco adoption events. All rabbits are spayed or neutered and have an ear tatoo that either says MHR or AHS. Our rabbit adoption fee is $50.00 per rabbit, or $75.00 for a pair of rabbits.

CUPIDS AND CANINES ADOPTION EVENT!

Please join us at Camp Bow Wow’s Cupids and Canines adoption event! We’ll have a tent set up at Camp Bow Wow in Lafayette on Sunday, February 20th from 1 – 4PM!  We will be having several opportunities at our tent, for you to help us raise money to help pay vet bills on our rescue animals.

DOG PARADE!

Acadiana Humane Society will be walking in the Krewe Des Chiens Parade on Saturday, February 26 from 2 – 4PM! We will be walking as many of our adoptable rescue dogs as we can. We are still looking for several volunteers to help us walk dogs, pull wagons, throw beads, hold our banner, and work security detail. Donations of beads are also needed. If you would like to help, please email Sue at suerabeaux@gmail.com and let her know how you can help. We hope to see everyone else at the parade catching the beads we will be throwing! Please come out and support all area animal rescues in this large fundraising event.
