All cats are fully vetted and this adoption fee helps with our vet expenses.

Oscar has been with Acadiana Humane Society since May 2009. He has seen many dogs come into the animal rescue system, and leave when adopted. Oscar really wants a home of his very own. He doesn’t understand why no one wants an older dog who only wants a home with someone to hold him and love him. Won’t you be a Saint and adopt this dog? If you are interested in adopting Oscar, you can meet him at the Lafayette Petco this Saturday from 12Noon to 4PM.

Oscar is a sweet Red Doxie. The vet estimates that he is about 4 years old, based on the good condition of his teeth. However, his graying fur has us thinking he may be a few years older. Oscar is crate trained. He is mostly house trained, but has an occasional accident. Oscar loves attention. He craves the companionship of people. Oscar loves to go for car rides. He will sit on a lap in the back seat and just stare out the window wagging his tail.

He gets along great with other dogs, for the most part. But, he does have jealousy issues when it comes to sitting on laps. He either needs a home where he can be the only lap dog (other dogs need to be too big to sit on laps), or with enough laps to go around for every dog. Oscar prefers not to be left alone. But, he is learning that he can not always be with someone. Oscar will bark at cats when they are on the other side of the fence. But, living at the Cat Ranch, Oscar has learned to tolerate and coexist with cats. He should do fine in a home with cats that do not antagonize him.

Oscar has some scarring on his back and tail, that the vet says indicates he may have been run over when he was younger. He does run under cars, so he needs to go to a home with a fenced in yard. Oscar prefers to spend most of his time inside with people.

Oscar’s adoption fee is only $100.00 (reduced due to his age). If you would like to be considered to adopt him, please fill out a prescreening application. Dog adoptions do require a home visit.

Meet Bacardi and JB – they consider each other their Best Friend Forever.
They play together, groom each other, hang out together and sleep together. Bacardi is the more talkative of the two. They both love to chase after the moving little red spot produced by those popular “Pet Laser” lights.

Both cats are about 3 years old.  Bacardi is a dilute peach-grey torbie girl, JB is a typical brown tabby boy.  They were rescued from a hoarder situation in Baton Rouge, LA, in 2007. Both cats get along with other cats and dogs that don’t act agressively towards them. When they want attention, they will come seeking it, but they are not lap cats.

If you’re looking for a furry friend that’s a 100% totally affectionate cuddler, talkative, playfully goofy lovebug with a huge fluffy tail, can I introduce you to Whiskers? With that fluffy tail, ear tufts, and big paws, we think Whiskers has some Maine Coon genes in him. He’s about 7 months old, and believe me, Whiskers absolutely adores attention!! His favorite place is to plop himself down and drape himself across his foster mom’s arms when she’s trying to use the computer keyboard. He loves to play with toys and gets along well with other cats once he’s used to them. He’s also learned a little bit that he can share space with dogs as long as they don’t act aggressively towards him.

JB and Bacardi are estimated to be about 2-3 years old.  They’ve been fixed, updated on their vaccines and microchipped. Both JB and Bacardi enjoy being petted and will come to you on their own terms for attention, but they are not total lap cats, and would do well in a multi-cat household or with someone who has experience with cats.  Contact us for more information on Bacardi and JB if you’re interested in adopting them.

Hi, my name is Snowbelle.  As you can see by my photo above,
I’m a solid white young female cat with emerald green eyes.  I think I
am about 1 or 1.5 years old.  My left ear is slightly tipped which means
I have already been spayed.

My buddies JB, Bacardi , and I were rescued from a very crowded hoarder
house in Baton Rouge back in February 2007.  There were over 40 cats
underone roof,  but surprisingly, we three were in pretty good health.
We all tested negative for FIV and FeLV, had a microchip inserted between
our shoulder blades, given rabies shots and the feline booster shots, and
were treated with Advantage to kill and keep fleas off.

At first I was wary of being touched by humans, but with the gentle
patience and attention of my foster moms, I have found it quite
pleasurable to be petted.  I especially love be scratched gently
underneath my chin. Since I don’t have to compete with so many
other cats for food like I did at my previous location, I have filled out quite
nicely and my white fur is sleek and smooth to the touch.  When I want
attention and affection from my foster moms, I let them know by meowing
and jumping on to their computer desks.  I will rub my cheek on their
keyboard, and sometimes when I am in an especially good mood, I will
even flop over on my back (feline giggle) on top of the keyboard.

I’m also very playful – I can entertain myself for hours with a toy mouse
filled with catnip – I’ve become adept at flipping it every which way in
the air and either pouncing on it when it lands or swiping it with my paw
to send it sliding across the floor so I can chase it. I like sleeping on the
bed, on the couch, anywhere that is comfortable.

As much as I love my foster home, my foster moms, and my feline
friends, the time has come for me to find a home of my own with a
special human companion that will love me and take care of me
however long I may live. I prefer to stay inside because there are too
many dangerous things outside like diseases, aggressive dogs, and
speeding cars. Also, do not have me declawed.

My foster mom is writing this post for me so that maybe some
one who sees this post and my picture will fall in love with me and
